Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among U.S. teenagers. Per mile driven, crash rates among 16 to 19-year-old drivers are higher than those for all other age groups. The crash rate among 16-year-old drivers is twice as high as among 18 to 19-year-old drivers.
